Assenden Glass

Meltwater

The affinity of glass with water and ice has led me towards an exploration of the effects of the shrinking glaciers and ice caps.

Although I had plenty of a good pure opaque white, I had to get a new palette of colours with wonderful names like fjord, aquamarine, ocean blue, bluish green and so on. I am using mixtures of these to try to catch the icy coldness of arctic and glacial water, and of ice with water flowing over, through and from it.

At first I was casting with prepared spun discs of white and stringers and shards of the blue greens, and then I took the same concept to blowing. I look forward to working with this idea for some time, in a search for the illusive effects that colour in glass can create.`
